What do this indie band and the Lochness monster have in common? They're both from Scotland! The debut album These Four Walls actually was released last summer, and a new EP titled The Last Place You'll Look was released in March of this year. Besides having the coolest band name ever, this quartet offers some really refreshing sounds, with percussion and strings that acclimate and finally leave the listener with a feeling of catharsis; a cleansing of emotional tension. Along with emotionally-charged lyrics that reflect the same sort of disillusionment and letdown as the band name implies, their style and sound is definitely something big. Their music is something you can really feel.
The song Quiet Little Voices was the first one I heard, and I initially loved it; I expected the rest of the album to sound similar. But when I listened to everything, I was a surprised how different it is from their other tracks -- but in a good way. Their album has a lot of variety; there are cute-sy upbeat songs, and others that are just sad and beautiful, like An Almighty Thud. And track #5, A Half Built House, reminds me of a spaceship floating silently in space. It's just instrumental, but it's so cool!
Favorite tracks: Quiet Little Voices, Conductor, Short Bursts Skip tracks: NONE. 5/5
Definitely give this a listen if you get the chance!
